Custom Dashboards (Beta)

Build shared dashboards of charts from your feedback, questions, and events, with breakdowns, filters, and comparisons

Beta: early access on request

Custom dashboards are in beta and available as early access on request. To enable them for your organization, contact support@encatch.com. Once they're enabled, Dashboards appears in your project sidebar.

A custom dashboard is a board of up to 10 charts that your project members open together. Unlike the per-form reports, one dashboard can combine several forms, questions, and events, and every chart on it follows the same date range and filters.

Create a dashboard

  1. Open Dashboards from the project sidebar.
  2. Select New dashboard, enter a name, and select Create. The first dashboard in a project becomes its default.
  3. Select Add chart and build the chart (see below). The preview updates as you change each setting.
  4. Select Save chart.
  5. To arrange charts, drag a chart by the grip next to its title, or resize it from its edges. Select Save layout to keep the arrangement, or Discard to undo it.

How many dashboards your organization can create depends on your plan.

Build a chart

Pick what the chart is about from the tabs at the top of the chart builder:

TabWhat it chartsTypical charts
ResponsesResponses across selected forms, or across all active formsResponse count, completion rate, responses over time
AnswersAnswers to one or more questions of the same typeAverage rating, NPS, CSAT, Yes rate, choice distribution
Free textAnswers to text questionsWord cloud, answer list
AI topicsTopics and sentiment found in feedbackTop topics, negative topics
Question activityHow questions of any type are answered or skipped, so different types can be comparedAnswer rate, skipped rate
Individual answersSingle responses, one row per responseAnswer table, full responses
EventsEvents your app tracksEvent count, events over time

Then choose:

  • What to measure, such as a count, rate, or score. Only measures that fit your selection are offered.
  • How it shows: Snapshot for one result over the whole date range, or Over time for a trend.
  • Visualization: stat card, bar chart, column chart, line, area, pie, rating, NPS and CSAT views, word cloud, or world map, depending on what you measure.

Stat cards

A stat card shows one number. You can style it as Value, Ring, Line, or Bars, and pick a colour.

  • Show change adds how the value moved, compared with the Previous period or the Same period last year. "To date" ranges compare like for like: if this month has run for 4 days, it's compared with the first 4 days of last month.
  • Target shows how far the value is from a goal you set, for scores, rates, and times. With fewer than 10 responses, the target is shown in grey instead of green or red, so a single response can't decide it.

Break a chart down

A breakdown splits one chart into a value per group, such as responses per country or average rating per app. Each chart can have one breakdown. Add it under Breakdown in the chart builder.

BreakdownSplits byAvailable for
TimeHour of day, day of week, day part, or weekday vs weekendResponses, events
FormEach form in the chartResponses
QuestionEach selected questionAnswers and question activity, when two or more questions are selected
Event nameEach selected eventEvents
Context variableA context variable sent with the form, such as plan or campaignResponses and answers
User traitA user property from Data SettingsResponses, answers, events
DeviceDevice type, operating system, browser, and other device detailsResponses, answers, events
CountryThe country the response or event came fromResponses, answers, events
LanguageThe language the response was given inResponses and answers
AppThe app the response was recorded inResponses, answers, events

For breakdowns with many possible values, such as country, device, or a user trait:

  • Show keeps the Top 5, 10, 15, or 20 values and groups the rest as All others, or shows All. New charts start at the top 10. The same setting trims long lists of choice options.
  • A breakdown returns at most 50 values. Anything beyond that is grouped as All others.

Answer charts can be split by the other breakdowns when the measure gives one value per group, such as an average rating per country. Time and Form aren't offered for answers.

A pie chart of responses or events needs a breakdown, because the breakdown values become its slices.

Date range and filters

  • Date range: the range at the top of the dashboard applies to every chart. It isn't saved with the dashboard, so each person picks their own. The default is the last 7 days.
  • Dashboard filters: select Add filter to narrow every chart by Context variable, User trait, Device, Country, Language, or App, using is, is not, is set, or is not set. Filters apply straight away. Select Save filters to keep them on the dashboard for everyone.
  • Chart filters: in a chart's settings, set Override dashboard filter to Yes to give that chart its own filters. The chart then uses only its own filters instead of the dashboard's, and still follows the dashboard's date range. Any chart's menu has Show applied filters, which lists the filters that chart is using.

Event charts can't be filtered by context variable or language, because events don't carry them.

Manage dashboards

Select the dashboard's title to open the list of dashboards in the project. From there you can switch dashboards, or use a dashboard's menu to Rename it, Set as default, or Delete it. Deleting removes the dashboard for everyone in the project, and you confirm by typing its name.

Access follows the Dashboards permission in each member's role, set under role management:

PermissionAllows
ReadOpen dashboards and see chart data. Apply filters for yourself, without saving them for others.
ManageEverything in Read, plus create, rename, and delete dashboards, add and edit charts, arrange the layout, save filters, and set the default dashboard.

About the beta

Custom dashboards are still evolving, so charts, options, and limits may change during the beta. If something is missing or doesn't work as you expect, tell us at support@encatch.com.
